DICOM
MEDICAL
Properly
calibrated
diagnostic
monitors
can
mean
the
difference
between
life
and
death.
DICOM
GSDF
Medical
Display
Calibration
uses
a
JND
(Just
Noticeable
Difference)
approach
to
calibrating
the
steps
between
each
level
in
the
display's
grey
scale,
combined
with
critical
colour
gamut
management.
PAV
t
CAL
uses
LightSpace
CMS
which
is
the
best
solution
for
calibration
of
displays
used
in
radiology,
endoscopy,
tomography,
ultrasound,
dentistry,
medical
surgery,
microscopy,
and
any
medical
imaging
application,
including
veterinary.
In
combination
with
Lightspace,
profiling
is
carried
out
with
a
Konica
Minolta
CA210
reference
colourimeter.
These
tools
provide
for
the
highest
accuracy
and
the
fastest
calibration
possible,
ensuring
that
money
is
not
spent
on
slow
inaccurate
probes
but
instead
on
greater
granularity
.
Through
the
use
of
3D
LUTs
the
level
of
volumetric
calibration
achievable
far
exceeds
traditional
grey
scale
only
DICOM
calibration,
maximising
the
visual
assessment
of
medical
images,
enhancing
the
ability
to
spot
items
of
interest
.
Lightspace
integrates
directly
with
common
diagnostic
displays
such
as
Eizo
and
NEC
for
3D
LUT
calibration.
PAV
t
CAL
also
has
the
ability
to
create
ICC
v4
profiles
with
an
embedded
3D
LUT
through
the
use
of
Spaceman.
Spaceman
also
allows
control
of
the
computer
VCGT
to
create
true
null
for
calibration.
THE
BENEFITS
OF
3D
LUT
CALIBRATION
Traditional
DICOM
medical
calibration
relies
on
the
use
of
ICC
profiles
for
display
calibration,
which
has
a
number
of
associated
issues
that
are
a
lot
less
than
ideal
for
accuracy
and
usability,
especially
when
you
need
to
be
able
to
rely
on
the
calibration
to
maintain
accuracy
without
question
.
High
granularity
3D
LUTs
ensure
completely
accurate
calibration.
Any
3D
LUT
created
in
Lightspace
can
be
integrated
with
v4
ICC
profile
using
Spaceman.
Many
calibration
systems
utilise
a
3x3
matrix
instead
of
a
3D
LUT.
The
issue
with
this
is
that
a
3x3
matrix
calibration
will
not
be
able
calibrate
all
available
colours
the
display
can
accurately
display,
while
a
3D
LUT
calibration
will.
A
matrix
calibration
will
clip
the
display
gamut
to
the
peak
colours.

POST
PRODUCTION,
CINEMA
AND
TV
It
goes
without
saying
that
monitor
calibration
in
post
production
is
critical,
yet
many
facilities
fail
to
attention
this
most
important
area.
The
monitor
is
the
device
that
is
used
to
make
judgments
about
picture
quality.
While
waveform
monitors
and
vectorscopes
are
essential
tools,
it
is
the
monitor
that
is
the
arbiter
of
image
quality.
Onset
monitors
are
also
equally
important.
Many
cinematographers
will
make
decisions
about
lighting
onset
while
looking
at
their
monitor.
Colourspace
provides
the
most
accurate
calibration
of
any
system
in
use
today.
In
combination
with
a
highly
accurate
and
very
fast
CR100
colourimeter,
it
is
possible
to
get
the
best
out
of
even
poor
monitors.
The
speed
of
the
CR100
makes
it
reasonable
to
do
4,913
(17^3)
in
2
hours
to
comprehensively
profile
any
monitor.
A
lower
cost
probe
or
spectro
would
take
many
more
hours
to
complete
a
profile
of
this
size
without
the
accuracy.
Matching
OLED
monitors
with
LCD’s
is
also
available
using
the
perceptual
matching
process.
This
requires
a
subjective
matching
of
the
OLED
white
to
the
LCD.
The
white
point
of
the
OLED
is
then
measured
and
these
xy
points
are
then
used
as
the
new
white
point
for
3D
lut
calibration.
This
has
proven
to
be
a
far
better
approach
than
the
Judd
offsets
for
white
points.

The
standard
VCGT
calibration
is
a
1D
LUT
and
therefore
only
capable
of
greyscale
calibration.
It
is
not
possible
to
correct
the
colour
of
the
display.
To
do
this
either
a
3x3
matrix
or
3D
LUT
is
required.
A
3x3
matrix
has
limitations
in
display
calibration
in
that
the
3x3
matrix
cannot
take
advantage
of
the
entire
display
gamut.
It
is
totally
governed
by
the
3
primaries
peaks.
A
3D
LUT
can
map
any
colour
and
therefore
can
take
advantage
of
the
displays
capability.
For
many
graphics
systems,
such
as
Photoshop,
LUTs
are
not
a
colour

option.
SpaceMan
ICC
will
convert
3D
LUTs
into
ICC
profiles
for
use
in
such
systems,
for
Look

as
well
as
Display

With
this
technology,
PAV

Welcome
to
the
Quiz!
I
know
that
for
a
lot
of
people
quizzes
can
be
quite
stressful.
But
I
would
like
those
of
you
who
find
them
stressful
to
view
the
quiz
as
an
opportunity
to
help
you
in
your
understanding
and
to
ensure
that
you
have
got
what
you
want
from
the
course.
You
can
take
the
quiz
as
many
times
as
you
like,
and
a
75%
score
will
result
in
the
award
of
a
Certificate
of
Completion.
Access
to
the
certificate
tab
will
appear
on
the

when
this
is

Good
luck
in

and
thank
you
for
